Caga Ti贸 (defecating log!), is among the region’s curious customs that are meant to entertain guests for as long as the tradition endures. Following the local tradition, a hollow log, typically measuring around a foot in length, is adorned with a cheerful expression and placed inside the family’s residence on the 8th of December.
Subsequently, the kids of the household are assigned with the responsibility of nourishing the Ti贸 by offering small portions of food and drink each day leading up to Christmas. Eventually, either on Christmas Day or Christmas Eve, the children merrily strike the log with sticks while singing the following festive song:
Once the children have joyfully sung this verse and properly whacked the unfortunate log, they will be delighted to find that some gifts have mysteriously appeared from within the hollowed-out trunk! In many aspects, it serves as the Catalan version of Santa Claus filling children’s stockings.
The CagaTi贸 together with the Caganer are two typical Catalan traditions that you will find at Christmas in Barcelona
